Monkey Bar Variations
I haven’t played on a set of monkey bars since I was a child and I’ll be honest, when my friends at Fitness Anywhere sent me a TRX/Monkey Bar rack, I felt like the uncoordinated kid on the playground. I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW HARD IT WAS! I looked nothing like my primate relatives.
For beginners, I found a neutral grip to be the easiest and most shoulder friendly variation. One of the more difficult variations is to skip a bar, which is actually what little kids naturally do. This is just another example of a primitive movement pattern we lose as adults from a lack of playing, moving and working (manual work not desk work).
Now, in my mind, I believe we should focus on packing the shoulder through ALL of these variations. This requires a tremendous amount of shoulder stability.
Tomorrow you should expect some lat soreness that you have never felt before. START SLOW!
